A concise blog guide

Note: This guide was created to replace the one that Richard deleted.

A guide to the functioning of the Blogger system. The HTML coding has been moved to a new page.

Creating posts

Accessible by: Blog moderators and administrators.

This is very simple and can be done in two ways.

1. Navigate to the top right corner of the blog page. There, click on the "New Post" button.

2. Go to the 6 Gentleness blog setting page and click on "New Post" at the left sidebar.

Editing posts

Accessible by: Blog moderators (own posts) and administrators (all posts).

      If you are a blog moderator:

Beside your own posts' comment count, you will find a pencil-shaped icon. Click on that to edit.

      If you are a blog administrator:

1) Go to the 6 Gentleness blog page list and hover your mouse over one of the page names. Under it, the word "Edit" will appear. Click on that.

2) Beside any post's comment count, the same pencil-shaped icon can be found. Click on that to edit.

Editing blog design

Accessible by: Blog administrators only.

1. Navigate to the top right corner of the blog page. There, click on the "Design" button.

2. You will be confronted (lol) with the "Template" area of the dashboard.

3. Click on the "Customize" button.

To edit blog background

After clicking the "Customize" button you will be immediately brought over to this page:

1. Click on the "Background" tab.

2. Click on the "Background image" section. 

3. You will get a wide range of pictures to choose from. Choose one and click "Done".

To edit blog text colour and format

1. Click on the "Advanced" tab.

There, this list will appear on your screen:

You can scroll down the list to explore more. Selected areas of text will be boxed up in red, as shown:

To edit blog gadgets

Go to the "Layout" tab of the blog dashboard. There, a rough sketch of the blog and its available gadget spaces will be shown.

Viewing blog information

Accessible by: Blog moderators and administrators.

1) 1. On the blog page, go to the top right corner and click the "New Post" button.

2. Go to the top right corner of the web page. There, click "Close".

3. You will be "confronted" (again!) with the blog's dashboard. The administrator version is shown below.

4. Click "Stats" > "Overview".

2) 1. Do steps 1-3 of the previous method. You will get to the "Overview" page.

2. Click on any of the numbers listed below to see their statistics in more detail.

Posting Content

All of the following methods are accessible by moderators and administrators, and assume that you have already done the obvious first step - opening/editing a post.

Adding images

1. Move your mouse up to the button beside the "Link" tab.

2. The following page will appear:

1) 3. From here, click on the "Choose files" image to upload an image from your computer. A smaller version of File Explorer will open.

4. Select your image and press "Open". Then, click on the image and press "Add selected".

2) 3. From here, click on the "From Picasa Web Albums" to view and choose all photos in your Google+ profile, scrapbook and blogs.

4. Select a folder, then select image(s) by clicking on them. Click "Add selected".

Adding links to web pages

1) 1. Move your mouse up to the "Link" tab.

2. Paste your URL into the lower box. Edit the text in the upper box to whatever you want it to display in the text.

2) 1. Highlight your selected words with your mouse.

2. Move your mouse up to the "Link" tab.

3. Paste your URL into the lower box. The words you have highlighted will be displayed in the upper box without you having to type them in.

Adding videos

I was too lazy to record a video and try to add it, so here's a guide on adding YOUTUBE videos.

1. Click on the button next to the "Image" button.

2. Go to the "From Youtube" tab.

3. Type in the name of your Youtube video, and press Search.

4. Click on a video, and press "Select".

...and that's it!
